Setting Up Claude for Your Store’s Workflow
Build a reusable brand-voice profile so you stop repeating yourself
Stop re-explaining your brand every time
If you’ve used Claude for your store already, you’ve probably typed some version of “keep it casual, no exclamation points, we sell to busy parents” into a dozen different conversations. The fix is to write that once, save it, and reuse it — either by pasting it at the top of new conversations or, if you’re on a paid Claude plan, saving it as a Project with custom instructions that apply automatically.
What belongs in a store profile
A good store profile is short — a few paragraphs — but specific. It should cover:
- Who you sell to. Age range, lifestyle, what problem they’re solving by buying from you.
- Your brand voice. Three to five adjectives, plus examples of words or phrases you avoid.
- Your catalog, briefly. What you sell, your rough price range, your platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.).
- Formatting habits. Do you use sentence case or title case for product titles? Do descriptions run as paragraphs or bullet lists? Any character limits (meta descriptions, SMS)?
- Hard rules. Claims you’re legally not allowed to make, words your brand never uses, disclaimers you always need.
A template you can copy and fill in
STORE PROFILE — [Your Store Name]
WHAT WE SELL: [e.g., Handmade ceramic homeware, $20-$80 price range]
PLATFORM: [Shopify / WooCommerce / etc.]
AUDIENCE: [e.g., Women 30-55 furnishing a first home or refreshing a
kitchen; value craftsmanship but are price-conscious]
BRAND VOICE: Warm, plainspoken, a little playful. Never salesy or
over-the-top. Short sentences over long ones.
WORDS WE AVOID: "luxury," "artisanal," "game-changing," excessive
exclamation points (max one per message).
FORMATTING DEFAULTS:
- Product titles: Title Case, under 60 characters
- Descriptions: 2-3 short paragraphs, no bullet lists unless specs-heavy
- Always include material and care instructions
HARD RULES:
- Never claim products are "eco-friendly" without qualification (we're
working toward certification, not there yet)
- Always mention our 30-day return policy in support replies
Paste this at the start of any new conversation about your store, and every draft Claude produces will already sound like you — no more re-explaining tone in every prompt.
Saving it so you don’t have to re-paste it
If you’re on Claude Pro, Team, or Enterprise, create a Project for your store and put this profile in the Project’s custom instructions. Every conversation you start inside that Project automatically has your brand voice loaded — you can jump straight to “write me a description for this product” without repeating the setup.
Tip: If you sell across multiple sub-brands or very different product lines, create a separate Project (or a separate profile block) for each one rather than cramming multiple voices into a single profile.
Refining it over time
Your first version won’t be perfect. When Claude produces something that’s technically fine but doesn’t sound like you, that’s useful signal — add a line to the profile that would have prevented it. Over a few weeks, your profile becomes a genuinely accurate description of your brand, written in a form Claude can act on directly.
Key principle: A brand voice profile isn’t a one-time setup task — it’s a living document. Update it whenever you notice Claude’s output missing the mark in the same way twice.
Try it: Draft your own store profile using the template above. Keep it under 200 words for your first pass — you can always add detail once you see what Claude gets wrong without it.
